Our Fourth Annual “Celebrating Sunshine Kids Gala” will be held November 2 at the Pointe West Golf Clubhouse.

The Gala is our primary fundraiser for, and in celebration of the contributors to, the Sunshine Kids Support Fund. The funds raised help offset costs incurred in providing services to children whose families are without the financial resources to pay. This allows access to care for children with developmental needs who may not otherwise receive it. Our generous sponsors and business donors make a direct and immediate difference in the lives of the children served in our Sunshine Kids Program. Many of the children in the program would not be able to receive needed treatment without our Support Fund. Early intervention with therapy for those children with milestone delays has been proven effective in the integration of skills necessary for normal development. Without our generous supporters, our Sunshine Kids’ development would be seriously impacted leading to their inability to fulfill their potential.

Speech Therapist Assistant Heather, working with Sunshine Kid, Jackson on communicating with his speech assisted device

2019 Sunshine Kids Child Ambassadors

Trinity is one special amazing child! She came into the world 14 weeks premature weighing a whopping 1lb 12oz. That’s only a little bigger than a block of cheese! She was 11in long, a little less than a standard school ruler. After Trinity spent 5 ½ months in the NICU, she started Speech and Occupational Therapies. She added Physical Therapy a few years later. Therapy has been so important for her quality of life, especially after being diagnosed with Autism. We have celebrated each of her milestones. We’ve watched her grow so much from not eating anything by mouth to eating us out of the house! Trinity went from barely communicating with us to holding full conversations and looking us in the eyes. We watched Trinity struggle to overcome every day obstacles that we take for granted to accepting new challenges with open arms! She could not have done any of this without tireless hours of OT, SP and PT and we couldn’t ask for a better facility than Sunshine Therapy! Trinity is our hero and inspires our hearts every day. Her parents John and Kathy, and older sister Lillian all feel so welcome and loved at Sunshine!! Thank you, Sunshine for playing such an amazing role in Trinity’s development and helping us grow as a family.

Ian is your typical, atypical teenager. He loves video games and spending time with his older brother. Ian loves to keep everyone on their toes, you never know what he is going to say or do. He was diagnosed at the age of 7 with epilepsy. After trying many different medications and having different tests done, Ian had Left Temporal Lobe Brain surgery at the age of 9. A complication of his surgery was a loss of some of his right-sided motor functions and strength. We were sent to another therapy group in town that worked with Ian to the best of their abilities until about 2 ½ years ago. At that time, we were introduced to Sunshine Physical Therapy and the family type of atmosphere which you all provide. We were only with you for a short period when Ian was diagnosed at the age of 12 with autism. Since that diagnosis and working with the Sunshine family, Ian has jumped leaps and bounds in therapy. He is recovering his right-sided strength and building his overall endurance in Physical Therapy. In Occupational Therapy he has made so many strides in his fine and gross motor skills, while in Speech Therapy he has made great progress in his speech and language skills, while also working on his reading comprehension. These are just a few of his strengths since joining Sunshine Physical Therapy, but the skills that meant the most to me are his social skills. Ian is now able to look a person in the eyes while speaking to them, he can tell a joke and he can laugh at a joke. Even though we still have our health struggles and Ian will possibly need therapy for many years to come, the little things that he can do now mean the most to me. Thank you, Sunshine Family for all that you do and continue to do.
